Pavement Pirate

He ain't no momma's angel
all-sweet and heaven-sent
he's a pavement pirate,
a trouble maker,
a spitfire malcontent

He rolls on down the sidewalks
n' sometimes, down the streets
looking for trouble
and causing mayhem
rarely polite or respectable or discreet

And when the neighbors complain
or worry he's causing a scene
he laughs and he cusses
n' sometimes he'll get obscene

"Don't call me no saint,
and I don't want to be your inspiration
but you can ride along with me
if you want
or just get the hell outta my way, son"

In the Steps of the Community

Traveling by the light of a sliver of a moon
for the safety of the darkness
and taking an elderly pace
and finding solid footing
in the steps of the Community

She, Who Counts the Stars

She went to the woods
when the leaves were finally gone
and there, she counted the stars

Own Your Place, You Are Irreplaceable

The rabbit raced the rain
she did
she raced it with desire
and when the night winds
howled and scream'd
she leapt up ever higher

She ran and laughed like
a thunderstorm
she dared the night to chase her
she knew her place
in these woods
and that they can't replace her.

A Song Was Sung

A song was sung
that called the moon into the sky

The moon, in turn,
called the players into the forest

The forest, for her part
welcomed them all within her shade

where they played in cool comfort

Write a Song

They stood in the darkness
that filled the room
like lines from an unwritten song

and they turned on the lights

Not That You Need My Approval

Rise up wild daughter of the woods
dance and romp
struggle and scream
kick and punch
Persist. Resist. Insist. Consist
of and within your
own sweet and glorious dragon Self.

Kick at the stones and
split the sky into
one thousand shards of color
bellow in rage
fight
spin
sing.

Or don't.

Just rest and relax or do
whatever
it is your own unchained soul wants.
It IS your life. Live it by your rules.

This poet stands with you and your choices.

Not Alone

He climbed to the mountaintop
and looked out upon the glory below
and he knew, he hadn't done it alone
but here's the important thing to know:

None of us ever will.

Make Way

With thousands of knives
and daily denials of his life
they slashed at her existence

"Your hair is wrong
your gait is wrong
your gender is wrong
your place of birth is wrong
your religion is wrong
your love is wrong
your skin is wrong
your job is wrong
your lack of a job is wrong
your language is wrong
your lack of a language is wrong
your existence is not real"

Slash. Cut. Slice. Erase.

But
She will not be erased.
He will not go away.
They Are.

Make Way.

Stepping Hard on Holy Ground

Stepping hard
on holy ground
paved paradise waiting to be
jack-hammered and overturned
rusted down and then burned
bitter-faced and forlorn
dusty and gravel-worn
oh,
but when shall we overcome?

Not today, says the concrete
Not today, says the crooked tower
Not today, says the vendor of chains
Not today, says the merchant of pain
Not today, says the Midas Goat of
one thousand heads and
ten thousand snatching tentacled arms

But let the people say,
Yes.
Today.
Si. Se Puede.

Mad Lilies

In spite of the dark in the sky
and the stones on the ground,
she danced like mad lilies
in a storm
Her bare feet fearless
in her persistent determination

Leave Them Wondering

He knew that sooner or later
someone would come along
and wonder how
this
came to be?

He lived for moments like that.

She Dreamed

She dreamed of
a rampaging river
ripping through the night sky
She dreamed of impossible
made practical
and doubtful
giving it a try
She dreamed of worlds clashing
and uniting
of day and and of night
of digging deeper holes
of black and of white
and all the colors, implied in between
She dreamed
of magick and mastery
of fear and flight
of hope and horror
of despair and fright
but mostly
hope
Mostly
she dreamed of Hope

And then
she woke up
filled her cups with water
and took them
to the river
and poured them deep within.

Casting Shadows

When the lights finally came on
he was there like a mountain
like a mountain
that had somehow gone unseen
and once he'd been seen
there could be no more disappearing
and the shadow he cast
was immense

Be the Light

In the midst of a dark night
count the stars and rely upon them
call upon the moon and her
certain return
hold hands
stand tall
walk carefully
but surely...
the Ground is beneath you.
Ha!
Count on it.

Don't be afraid.
Or
be afraid
and trust your friends,
remember
that you have each other

In the midst of a dark night
cope
adapt
let your eyes adjust
and listen
listen
listen!

In the midst of a dark night
Be the Light -
Be the Light!
Even if you have to bring the sun
yourself.

Fearing Nothing

She rolled into a wild night wood
fearing nothing
knowing there was nothing to fear

I Used to Think it Was Impossible

She placed the stars in the sky each night
as the sun set low and red

"I used to think it was impossible
but now I know better," she said.

Beloved By All Who Mattered

They played songs to welcome the night and were bathed in stars baptized by light and beloved by all who mattered
